Bloody Birthday is a peculiar entry in the early '80s horror scene that often gets overshadowed by more mainstream slasher flicks. The premise, revolving around three children born during a total eclipse, lends a unique cosmic twist to the classic killer kid trope. There's an unsettling atmosphere throughout, amplified by the juxtaposition of childhood innocence and cold-blooded murder. The pacing is a bit uneven but builds a nice tension as the kids, seemingly charming, unleash their brutality on unsuspecting victims. Practical effects, although not lavish, have a certain raw quality that can be appreciated. The performances toe the line between eerie and believable, especially from the young actors. It’s a film that leaves you pondering the nature of evil and innocence.
