So, 'Boy Meets Girl' from 2016 has this intriguing premise set in a not-so-distant future where North and South Korea are on the cusp of a historic union. The film brings together Ha-jin, a North Korean girl, and Woo-yeong, a South Korean boy, for a homestay. What’s really striking is the mix of adventure and drama as Woo-yeong starts out with some classic teenage bullying. Yet, amidst that tension, there’s this underlying exploration of identity and the societal divides. The performances manage to capture the awkwardness of adolescence in a politically charged context. The pacing feels a bit off at times, but that adds to the authenticity of their interactions. Definitely a film that sticks with you for its unique approach to a sensitive subject.
