Bulgaran is Gallant is a charming little comedy from 1915, directed by Vasil Gendov. The film captures the lively atmosphere of city streets, where our protagonist, Bulgaran, who exudes sophistication and charm, finds himself in a playful exchange with a young woman. It’s interesting how the pacing flows, with a whimsical back-and-forth that builds tension. The performances are quite engaging—Bulgaran’s cocky demeanor meets its match in her cleverness, and it’s a treat to watch. There’s a distinct lightness to the film, but there's also a subtle layer of social commentary on romance and courtship. Gendov’s direction shines through in the practical effects, which, for the time, are quite inventive. Definitely a notable piece of early cinema.
