Carnivorous (2007) is one of those films that digs into the grim realities of survival horror. The atmosphere is thick with tension from the get-go, as Kate Walker finds herself in a claustrophobic chamber with a bunch of other captives. You really feel the sense of dread; the pacing draws you in, keeping you on edge as the group grapples with their terrifying situation. The practical effects add a rawness that modern CGI often misses, giving the demonic creatures a gritty, visceral presence. Performances are pretty compelling too, especially from the ensemble cast, who really sell the urgency and desperation. It’s not polished, but there’s something striking about its approach to horror that sticks with you.
