Carried Away (2012) is this interesting little drama that kind of captures the messiness of family life during the holidays. Ed Franklin heads back to Fort Worth, expecting some sort of Christmas cheer, but instead finds his family's dynamics are all over the place, and it’s not all wrapped up nicely. The atmosphere feels heavy, thanks to the crumbling marriage of his parents and the tension with his brothers, which is portrayed in a really raw way. The pacing has this almost languid feel, allowing the weight of the situation to settle in. The performances are solid, especially how they navigate the emotional landscape without resorting to melodrama. It’s a film that sticks with you, exploring themes of familial obligation and the search for personal truth amidst chaos.
