So, Castaway from '86 is this curious little film that explores the complexities of human connection—set against the backdrop of a deserted island. You’ve got middle-aged Gerald, who puts out this ad looking for companionship for a year in isolation, and in comes Lucy. The initial excitement quickly turns to tension as their personalities clash. The pacing can feel a bit slow in parts, but that's part of its charm, I suppose; it gives us time to really sit with their struggle. The performances have this raw quality that reflects the isolation and desperation of their situation. It’s not your usual adventure fare—there’s a deeper psychological layer that makes it distinctive, and I think that's what drew me in.
