Cheyenne (1996) is an interesting slice of the Western genre, riding the line between classic tropes and a more modern sensibility. The film follows Cheyenne, played by Bobbie Phillips, who's anything but your typical damsel. After a violent outburst, she finds herself on the run with a hefty bag of her husband's cash. The pacing is brisk, and you can feel the tension simmering as she navigates through a landscape filled with bounty hunters, one of whom, Jeremiah (Gary Hudson), adds a layer of complexity to the pursuit. The performances have a raw edge that fits the gritty atmosphere, and while the practical effects may not be groundbreaking, they do capture that rough-and-tumble feel of the Old West. It’s a film that’s as much about survival and rebellion as it is about the classic chase.
