Chhal, from 2013, dives into a haunting atmosphere right from the start. The story is simple yet effective, revolving around a man who comes back to his village and encounters these unsettling ghostly tales. It's got that slow, creeping tension which I find really effective, letting the dread build rather than throwing jump scares at you. The mood is quite heavy, complemented by some decent practical effects that lend a certain authenticity to the supernatural elements. Performances are solid, particularly the lead, who brings a layered vulnerability to his character. It’s not groundbreaking, but the execution feels genuine, and it captures that eerie rural vibe that adds to the overall experience. Definitely one of those films that linger in the back of your mind.
