Chikaro, from 2013, is one of those quirky comedies that takes a simple premise and twists it into something oddly charming. The film follows a naive village girl who learns about life and love with the help of an ex-mat rempit. It’s got this light-hearted tone mixed with genuine moments of growth and realization. The pacing is a bit uneven at times, but it allows for some fun character exploration. The performances strike a balance between comedic and heartfelt, which is refreshing. Practical effects are minimal, but they don’t overshadow the storytelling. What makes Chikaro distinctive is how it captures that transitional phase of adulthood, wrapped in small-town quirks that give it an authentic feel. A charming watch, for sure.
