Confined is a gritty, claustrophobic thriller that really digs into the mind of its protagonist, James Andrews. He wakes up chained in this nondescript cellar, and the tension builds as he grapples with his situation. The atmosphere is thick, almost oppressive – you can feel the dampness of the cellar and the weight of isolation. The pacing is deliberately slow, which only heightens the sense of dread. The performances are solid, particularly the lead; you can see the desperation and determination in his eyes. There’s something distinctly raw about the practical effects, too – they avoid flashy gimmicks but still pack a punch. It’s a film that leaves you wondering about the lengths one would go to for survival.
