Copkiller, directed by an unknown hand, really leans into that gritty New York atmosphere of the early '80s. The pacing is slow, almost methodical, as we watch this NYPD officer turn the tables on his captive, a cold-blooded admitted cop-killer. The tension simmers, builds, and then snaps as the victim, rather than succumbing, starts to taunt and toy with his captor. It’s unsettling, really—makes you question the morality of it all. The performances are raw and intense; you can feel the desperation and darkness in the air. And sure, some practical effects are used, but it’s the psychological cat-and-mouse that leaves a mark. Not your typical cop drama, it’s more of a moral quandary wrapped in a thriller.
