Cross Mission is an interesting entry in the action genre from 1988, marked by its gritty portrayal of political corruption and drug trade in a fictional Latin American country. The film follows General Romero, who puts on a show for the UN but quickly resumes his nefarious activities once they leave. The pacing is a bit uneven, but it really captures the tension and danger of the drug trade. There are some practical effects that feel very much of their time, raw and unrefined, which adds to the film's rough charm. Performances are a mixed bag, but they help to convey the desperation of the characters involved. It’s not groundbreaking, but there’s something undeniably engaging about its themes of betrayal and survival.
