Crossing The Line is a moody drama that really immerses you in the stark, lonely life of Jakop, a fisherman grappling with his past. The setting on lake Peipus is beautifully shot, capturing both the serenity and isolation of the landscape. Malmsten’s pacing is deliberate, drawing you into Jakop's internal conflict as he weighs the arrival of refugees against his own desperate circumstances. The performances feel raw and authentic, especially from the lead, who conveys so much with just a glance or a gesture. It’s not heavy on special effects, relying instead on atmosphere and character development. The film asks tough questions about redemption and survival—definitely leaves a lingering thought long after it ends.
