Cry of the Banshee is an interesting blend of horror and folklore, set amidst the grim backdrop of 17th century England. Hessler's direction gives it a gritty, almost oppressive atmosphere, which is intensified by the practical effects and some rather striking costume design. The pacing can feel a bit uneven at times—there are moments of real tension followed by stretches that linger on character development. The performances, especially from Vincent Price, are solid; he brings a certain gravitas to Lord Whitman that elevates the material. And the themes of power, vengeance, and the supernatural are woven in nicely, though not always seamlessly. It’s got its quirks, but that’s part of its charm.
