Dark Room (2023) is an intriguing short film that dips into the psychological realm. The atmosphere is thick, almost claustrophobic, with a minimalist setting that amplifies the tension. You feel the weight of silence, punctuated by a few well-placed sound effects, which really pull you into the protagonist's mind. The pacing is deliberate, allowing for those quiet moments to simmer, which is a nice contrast to many quick-cut, over-stimulated shorts out there. While we don’t know much about the director, the use of practical effects over CGI is refreshing, adding a raw edge to the film. Performances are somewhat understated but effective, leaving you with lingering questions about reality and perception. It definitely carves out its own space in the indie scene.
Dark Room (2023) is still a bit of an enigma, with limited release information and a somewhat elusive director. There aren’t many copies floating around, making it an interesting piece for collectors who appreciate indie shorts. Its unique atmosphere and execution may draw in those looking for something off the beaten path, but the scarcity does add a layer of intrigue for anyone keen on tracking down lesser-known titles.
