So, Dark Water (2017) - it’s an interesting piece, really. The atmosphere is thick with tension, and you can’t help but feel that creeping dread as the three young protagonists explore this desolate ship. The pacing has a slow burn quality, which works to its advantage, allowing you to really soak in the unsettling vibes. It takes its time before the horror elements kick in, but once they do, it’s a blend of psychological and supernatural that nails that uneasy feeling. The practical effects are surprisingly well done for a smaller film, adding to the overall authenticity of the scares. Performances are decent too, a bit raw in places, but it fits with the film's off-kilter charm. It’s not your typical horror fare, which is what makes it worth talking about.
Atmospheric tension builds slowly, rewarding patient viewers.Practical effects enhance the eerie, unsettling vibe.Character performances carry an authentic, raw quality.
