Days of Grace has an atmosphere that feels heavy with the weight of its time. Set in 1742, it follows a fisherman's son who accidentally finds himself in a leper colony, which is a pretty unique premise. The pacing can be slow, but it really allows the viewer to soak in the desperation and hope that permeates the lives of the characters. I'm drawn to the practical effects used to depict leprosy – they don't shy away from reality. Performances lean into the raw emotional struggles of survival and community, making it a distinctive piece. There's something about the way it captures the human spirit in the face of adversity that sticks with you, even long after the credits roll.
