So, 'De nacht van Aalbers' is one of those political thrillers that kind of pulls you in with its murky atmosphere and morally ambiguous characters. You’ve got this PvdA frontman, Frits Aalbers, who’s knee-deep in a murder mystery at a hotel, and he’s not exactly a paragon of virtue. The pacing feels deliberate, building that tension as he tries to juggle his political ambitions with the impending disaster of the truth coming out. The performances have this understated intensity, especially from Aalbers, who is portrayed with layers that make you question his motives. It’s not flashy, but there’s something gritty about how it tackles themes of power and ethics that really sticks with you. Definitely a unique piece in the thriller category.
