Dead West is this interesting blend of genres that really plays with the conventions of the Western, but then adds in this horror twist that keeps you on edge. The pacing has a nice, slow build which mirrors the unsettling atmosphere of the town as the sickness spreads. You can really feel the weight of isolation that the characters experience. Practical effects are used throughout, enhancing the grim reality of the situation without relying too much on CGI. The performances are solid, especially from the Sheriff who has that grizzled determination. It’s not your typical Western, and that’s what sets it apart — it feels both familiar and fresh in a way that makes you think about what it means to fight for your home when that home is falling apart.
