Deadly Friend is this curious blend of horror and sci-fi from the mid-'80s that flirts with some really wild ideas. You have this teenage genius, Paul, who takes a pretty dark turn after a couple of devastating losses—his robot buddy and the girl next door he’s got a crush on. The pacing is a bit erratic; it shifts from moments of high tension to almost goofy scenes. But those practical effects? They stick with you. There's a certain rawness to the film that feels quintessentially '80s, with that distinct vibe of experimentation in robotics and resurrection. The performances are decent, though the script can feel a bit clunky at times, which just adds to its charm, I guess. It’s not your standard fare, that’s for sure.
Interesting take on robotics and resurrection.Features memorable practical effects that define the era.A good example of 80s horror with a sci-fi twist.
