Death Lake - The Movie is an interesting blend of adventure and horror, though it leans heavily into the thriller territory. The story revolves around a group of teens who set out for what they think is going to be a relaxing camping trip, only to find themselves in a fight for survival. The atmosphere is thick with tension, especially as the group encounters various obstacles that push them to their limits. The film does a solid job with practical effects, which adds a gritty realism to the scares. Performances are somewhat uneven, but they capture that youthful exuberance and naïveté. It’s not groundbreaking, but it has that certain charm that can draw you in, especially if you appreciate indie horror from this era.
