Death Mask (1998) is a pretty grim little horror film that dives into the psyche of its main character, Wilbur. This guy's got a rough backstory, being scarred by his sadistic father, which sets a dark tone right from the start. The carnival setting adds a really eerie atmosphere, you know? Watching him get fired and then seek out that swamp-witch is where it starts to get wild. The practical effects are solid for the time, especially when things get bloody. The pacing feels off sometimes, but it kind of works in building tension. Performances are a mixed bag, but Wilbur's pain really comes through. It's definitely got a unique vibe, a blend of folklore and psychological horror that's not often seen.
