Death on Gokumon Island is a curious mix of post-war tension and classic mystery tropes. The setting—a remote island in the Seto Inland Sea—really contributes to the eerie atmosphere, almost as if the island itself is a character. Kindaichi Kōsuke's investigation unfolds at a leisurely pace, allowing the viewer to soak in the quirks of the Kitō family and their three sisters, who are anything but conventional. There’s a unique blend of practical effects and striking visuals that highlight the story's darker themes, particularly around isolation and the aftermath of conflict. Performances are solid, especially the interactions between Kindaichi and Sanae; there's an intriguing chemistry that adds depth. It’s a journey that feels layered, with plenty of twists that kept me guessing.
