So, 'Death Shadows' is quite the oddity from '86. The premise is wildâthree guys, all on death row, get turned into these ninja executioners, working for some high-ranking shadowy figures. It has this gritty, almost oppressive atmosphere that really pulls you in. The pacing is uneven; it lingers in spots and then rushes through key moments, which adds to the tension. You can tell it had a modest budget, but they make up for it with some solid practical effects and fight choreography. The character of Yazuke the Viper is particularly intriguing, especially when he reunites with his daughter, Ocho. It adds this layer of emotional weight that you donât expect from an action flick. Definitely one of those films that sticks with you.
Unique twist on the executioner trope.Interesting exploration of redemption and family.Practical effects give it a raw feel.
