Deception (2008) has that moody, atmospheric vibe that really pulls you in. Langenegger does a nice job of creating tension, and McGregor’s performance as Jonathan is pretty compelling. He’s this lonely, lost guy, and you can feel the weight of his choices. The underground sex club element adds a layer of intrigue, though it sometimes feels like it’s borrowed from other thrillers. The pacing can be a bit uneven; it builds up slowly but hits some solid twists that kept me engaged. Not a lot of flashy effects, but it’s the performances and that New York setting that really stand out. Definitely a film that lingers in your mind long after the credits roll.
