So, 'Deep Bones' is kind of an oddball. It’s got this eerie, almost haunting vibe that really sticks with you. There's this lone female student just drifting through her summer in an empty high school, which gives the whole film a sense of isolation. The pacing is slow, but it works, letting you soak in the atmosphere. The interactions with the female teacher almost feel like a dance between connection and failure. And then there’s the biology teacher boiling a bat carcass, which is as bizarre as it sounds and definitely adds a unique twist. It’s a film that plays with themes of loneliness and curiosity, using practical effects to create a tangible sense of discomfort. Performances are understated, but they leave an impression. It’s not your typical drama, that's for sure.
