Desire (2005) is a film that dives into the complexities of human connection, or the lack thereof, really. There's this young man, driven by his need for physical intimacy, and then you have this world-weary woman, drowning in a sea of casual encounters. The chemistry is palpable, yet there's an underlying sadness that permeates every scene. Tetsuo Shinohara's direction brings a certain rawness to it, you know? The pacing can feel languid at times, which suits the overall tone of longing and disillusionment. The performances are solid—authentic and gritty. You get the sense that the actors really inhabit their characters. It's not your typical love story, but that's what makes it stand out, I think.
