Diamonds of Kilimandjaro is an interesting blend of action, adventure, and a hint of horror. The film has this raw, gritty vibe typical of early '80s exploitation cinema. You can really see the practical effects at play, especially in the creature sequences, which give it a genuine, albeit campy, charm. The pacing is all over the place—there are some slow moments that drag, but then it picks up with wild jungle chases and encounters with the tribe. The performances are pretty earnest, especially from the actress playing the goddess, and the whole premise of feuding over treasure and a lost girl fits snugly into the adventure genre. It’s got that weird, off-kilter feel that makes it distinctive among its peers.
