Dies Irae is an interesting piece of animation that really leans into the mundane aspects of life. Our protagonist, X, is caught in a daily grind of work, family obligations, and the highs and lows of football fandom. The tone feels heavy, almost existential, especially after the club's loss which acts as a catalyst for everything that follows. The pacing is deliberate, allowing you to really sit with X's feelings of despair and disillusionment. What strikes me is how the animation complements the mood; there's a rawness that enhances the narrative without relying on flashy effects. It’s not your typical animated fare, more introspective, more about the emotional landscape than the action.
