Dies irae is definitely one of those films that lingers in the mind. It’s a Slovak language drama from '84, helmed by Martin Tapák, and the atmosphere is thick with a sort of somber tension that keeps you engaged. The pacing is methodical, almost meditative at times, which enhances its heavy themes of life and death. The performances are striking, capturing raw emotion without overselling it. There’s a unique blend of realism and the surreal that sets it apart, with practical effects that, while not flashy, serve the story well. It’s not your conventional TV movie; it has a weight and depth that feels almost rare in its genre.
