Diplomatic Courier is a neat little Cold War thriller that captures the tension of the era. Henry Hathaway directs with a steady hand, creating an atmosphere where paranoia seeps into every scene. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, which works well for its espionage themes. Richard Conti as Mike Kells embodies that classic, rugged intelligence. The film might feel like it’s taking its time, but it builds a palpable sense of dread and uncertainty. Those location shots in Salzburg are something else too; they add a gritty realism to the whole affair. What sticks with you is the sense of isolation and danger lurking just out of sight, making it a unique entry in the genre.
