Disintegration (2013) is this raw documentary that really pulls you into the depths of social fragmentation. It’s got a mosaic style, kind of like you're piecing together stories of those left behind. Seven filmmakers contribute, each bringing their own lens to the despair and struggle. You've got an old man digging through trash for scraps and a father desperate to provide water, just to name a couple. The atmosphere is heavy, and the pacing is reflective, allowing you to really sit with the weight of these lives. You can almost feel the tension between the haves and have-nots. It’s a tough watch but it gives you so much to think about, making it distinct from other docs that feel more polished or curated.
