Divorcing Jack is an interesting blend of dark comedy and romance set against the backdrop of a turbulent Irish political climate. The film has this gritty yet engaging atmosphere, perfectly capturing the cynicism of its protagonist, Dan Starkey. He’s a bit of a mess—aging, a heavy drinker, and navigating the absurdities of life in a newly independent Ireland. The pacing feels almost like a meandering conversation over pints, with moments of sharp wit and awkwardness. The performances are solid, especially the dynamic between Dan and the nun, which brings some unexpected levity. It’s not often you see a dead body and a nun in a rom-com, right? This film carves its own niche, for sure.
