Doc & Darryl is this raw, gritty look at the highs and lows of two baseball stars, Doc Gooden and Darryl Strawberry. The documentary dives into the 1986 Mets, capturing that electric moment when they were on top of the world in New York. But it doesn’t shy away from the darker aspects of their lives, the struggles that brought them down. The pacing feels like a slow burn, allowing you to really soak in the atmosphere of both the field and the personal battles. Jon Stewart's reflections add a nostalgic weight, making you feel the tension of unmet expectations. It’s a reflective piece about talent, fame, and the price they pay, and you can sense that duality throughout the film. Quite compelling, really.
