Dog Tags (1987) is one of those hidden gems that really captures the tension of wartime decisions and moral dilemmas. The film plays out with a gritty realism, especially evident in the scenes depicting the POWs' harrowing captivity. The pacing is a bit uneven at times, but it adds to that palpable sense of dread. The characters, led by an Army Captain, are really put through the wringer when they stumble upon that gold stash. Greed becomes a character in itself, twisting their camaraderie into something darker. The practical effects are solid for its time, giving it a raw edge. Performances are decent, with some moments that stick with you. Overall, it’s an interesting take on the consequences of war and human nature.
