So, Down 2 Come Up is an interesting piece from 2019. It dives into the gritty side of life after prison, showing how the main character, fresh out and trying to reintegrate, finds everything’s flipped upside down. His girlfriend’s become a stripper, which is a big shocker. The pacing is kind of uneven at times, but it really captures that desperate energy of the streets. Themes of survival and identity clash pretty hard, especially when he meets this larger-than-life character, the King of Bankhead. The performances have an authenticity that pulls you in, and while the direction’s a bit rough around the edges, it feels raw and real, which I appreciate. It’s not polished, but that’s what gives it character.
