So, 'Dragnet' from '87 is this fun mash-up of action and comedy, directed by Tom Mankiewicz. It follows LAPD Sgt. Joe Friday, who’s not the original but definitely has the same no-nonsense vibe. He teams up with Pep Streebeck, a younger, more laid-back detective, which creates this interesting contrast. The pacing is pretty solid, mixing zany moments with a light-hearted investigation into bizarre crimes, like zoo robberies and, strangely enough, the theft of adult magazines. The film has a nice blend of practical effects and some goofy humor, and it’s interesting to see how they play off the original Dragnet series while carving out their own identity. The performances are quite engaging, especially the chemistry between the leads.
