Dreams of Innocence is an interesting piece, really captures the harshness of rural life in Israel, and the complexity of childhood. Little Benjamin and Margalit, growing up under the care of their weary mother, carry this weight of expectation and longing. The pacing is contemplative, letting you sit with their struggles. You really feel the absence of their father, whose restless spirit looms over their lives, and somehow, the absence is as palpable as his presence might have been. It’s not dripping with sentimentality, but there’s a raw honesty in the performances that feels genuine. The cinematography has this earthy quality, grounding the film in its setting. It’s a quieter, introspective drama that stays with you longer than you’d expect.
