So, 'Dreamy Fifteen' is this offbeat drama-romance that really captures the essence of adolescent ambition and the chaos of city life. Tasiro Yuusuke, our protagonist, is just a tenth-grader trying to navigate his way through the pressures of high school and the weight of expectations. The Tokyo setting adds this unique, buzzing atmosphere that contrasts sharply with his quieter Kyushu roots. The pacing feels a bit languid at times, almost reflective of Tasiro's daydreams, which makes it all the more engaging. There are these subtle themes of identity and belonging woven throughout, which, for a film from 1980, feels surprisingly relevant. Not to mention, the performances are sincere, capturing the awkwardness of youth beautifully. It's certainly not your typical coming-of-age flick.
