Duel is a fascinating early work from Spielberg, blending tension and simplicity in a way that really sticks with you. The whole movie is essentially a cat-and-mouse game between David Mann, played convincingly by Dennis Weaver, and a faceless, relentless truck driver. It’s amazing how Spielberg builds suspense with minimal dialogue, relying heavily on atmosphere and the sound of the engine roaring. The practical effects are impressive for a TV movie from the 70s, especially the way the truck maneuvers, almost like a character itself. This film captures the isolation of the California desert beautifully, and the pacing keeps you on the edge without feeling rushed. It's a showcase of early Spielberg's talent for suspense in a raw form.
