Dumb and Dumber is a prime example of 90s comedy that revels in absurdity. Peter Farrelly's direction brings out the chaotic energy between Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, who play the dim-witted duo with such commitment. The humor is often crude but layered with a certain charm, and you can't help but admire the slapstick and practical effects—like that notable van. The pacing has a nice rhythm, moving from one ridiculous situation to the next without feeling too dragged out. Plus, the film's themes of friendship, albeit through a ludicrous lens, give it an odd heart. It's a blend of ridiculous situations and sharp one-liners that makes it stand apart from other comedies of the time.
