Dust Devil, directed by Richard Stanley, is a strange blend of horror, mystery, and thriller that really captures the isolation and desolation of the Namibian landscape. The pacing is often languid, which adds to the atmosphere but might not sit well with everyone. The practical effects are quite impressive for its time; there’s a raw quality that feels genuine, especially in the way the supernatural elements manifest. The performances, especially from Chelsea Field, carry a weight that makes her desperation palpable. It’s not the typical slasher fare, more of a mood piece with a dreamlike quality, but there's something about its unsettling vibe that lingers long after the credits roll.
