E42 is quite an intriguing documentary that digs into the EUR district of Rome, a place steeped in a heavy dose of history and ambition. You get this palpable sense of the modernist ideals that Mussolini envisioned, with all those stark lines and grandiose buildings that were originally meant for a World Fair that never happened. The pacing feels deliberate, almost meditative, allowing you to soak in the atmosphere of the space. There's an eerie juxtaposition of beauty and the darker undertones of its origins. The visuals are striking, and although the director remains unknown, the film does a solid job of connecting the past to the present, making you think about how history shapes our environments and collective memory. Definitely a unique piece to consider for any serious collection.
