Eating Children is one of those films that really tests the boundaries of dark comedy. The premise—Zang Qing's macabre desire to have his child consumed—creates this bizarre and unsettling atmosphere that lingers. The pacing is thoughtful, allowing the absurdity to sink in while keeping you engaged. It's practically raw in its approach, with a style that feels almost documentary-like at times, which makes the outrageous subject matter even more jarring. The performances are a bit over the top but suit the tone perfectly, adding layers to the surreal humor. It's distinct, for sure, and definitely not for everyone, yet it manages to mix serious themes with outrageous ideas in a way that leaves you contemplating long after it's over.
