Eerie (2022) is this odd blend of comedy and horror that leans into the discomfort of group dynamics. It’s set on a seemingly normal summer day in July 2016, where two friends, Jerry and Rig, head out for what should be a fun hike. But soon, they’re hounded by an obnoxious crew of older guys, with Jerry's brother, Tommy, at the forefront. The tension builds nicely, and there's a clever balance of laughs and unsettling moments that keeps you on edge. The practical effects aren’t overdone, adding to the authenticity, while the performances feel pretty genuine. It’s distinct in how it plays with the familiar trope of hiking gone wrong, flipping it in ways that feel fresh and somewhat relatable.
