Egg (2005) is this fascinating little piece of animation that definitely stands out in the action genre. Itβs almost like a fever dream, really β a pea-sized pirate going against a golden foe in a bizarre retelling of Moby Dick. The stop-motion technique here is pretty impressive; it lends this tactile quality to the absurdity on screen. The atmosphere is thick with tension and conflict, which is a nice contrast to the whimsical premise. The pacing feels almost surreal, shifting gears unexpectedly, yet it all threads together in a way that makes you think. It's a film that toys with your expectations and leaves you in a state of wonder. Definitely not your average animation, and that's what makes it distinctive.
