Elektra from 2013, directed by an unknown hand, is something quite special in the realm of musical productions. Staged in Aix-en-Provence, this was the last work by Patrice Chéreau, and you can feel that weight in every note. The atmosphere is thick with tension, thanks in part to the powerful performances of the singers. Evelyn Herlitzius' portrayal of the lead character is striking; her voice cuts through the emotional turmoil like a knife. The pacing feels deliberate, almost haunting at times, which really allows the story's themes of revenge and grief to resonate. The production is visually interesting as well, with practical effects that enhance the raw energy of the performance, giving it a real sense of immediacy and presence.
