Employee of the Month has that classic mid-2000s slacker vibe, blending comedy with a dash of romance. You’ve got a pretty laid-back atmosphere, which is fitting given it’s set in a big-box store. The banter between the leads, particularly Jessica Simpson and Dane Cook, is pretty much what you'd expect—some hits, some misses. There’s something charming about the absurdity of competing for a title that doesn’t mean much, but it does tap into that theme of ambition versus apathy. The pacing feels a bit uneven in parts, but it manages to keep you entertained. Not all jokes land, but there’s a certain nostalgic quality to the whole film, like a snapshot of a specific era in comedy.
