Entrails of a Virgin is one of those films that really dives into the sleazy underbelly of horror and adult film. The atmosphere is thick with tension, especially with that fog-blanketed mountain setting. You can feel the isolation creeping in as the crew finds this deserted resort. Pacing is pretty relentless; it keeps you on edge with an unsettling build-up before the real horror unfolds. Kazuo Komizu’s direction brings an eerie quality to the practical effects, which are, let’s say, memorable. The performances are a mixed bag, but they amplify the chaotic energy and desperation of the situation. It’s grim, it’s raw, and it’s definitely not for the faint of heart. This film embodies the wild experimentation of the mid-'80s genre mash-up era.
