Ernest Goes to Jail is a real trip through the mind of that lovable goof, Ernest P. Worrell. Directed by John Cherry, it embraces that whimsical slapstick tone we expect from the series. The pacing is all over the place, which somehow adds to its charm—moments of frantic energy paired with slower, more introspective scenes. The practical effects, while not groundbreaking, have that nostalgic feel that brings you back to the late '80s and early '90s. Jim Varney's performance is, of course, the highlight, capturing Ernest's heart and haplessness perfectly. It’s interesting how it tackles themes of identity and justice, all wrapped in absurd situations. Just a peculiar blend of comedy and crime that you don’t see every day.
